SEO Copywriting for Dummies: How to optimize content - Both

Content is king.

But if you want to reach more people and get better results for your online presence, you’ll need to do more than churning out quality content. If you search Google for the “top restaurants around the metro,” it will pull up thousands of results. Yet, not all those results will get the same clicks. You’ll probably only view the first three websites before closing the search browser.

Your customers have the same mindset. The challenge for companies is getting the top spot on the results – this is where SEO copywriting comes into the picture.

What is SEO copywriting?

SEO copywriting is writing content for humans AND search engines, with the goal of:

  1. Ranking on the first few pages of search results; and
  2. Encouraging users to take some action that benefits your business (buy a product, sign up for a newsletter, and more )

Ideally, an excellent optimized copy will help you rank higher than your competitors for the same search words relevant to your business.

There are two main steps to creating SEO-friendly content: First, research keywords; Second, include those keywords on your copies.

SEO Content Writing Tips and tricks

If done well, SEO copywriting can help your business reach unimaginable success at the same level that paid marketing strategies can. Here are some tips and tricks:

Tip # 1: Create an appealing headline

Get a higher chance of landing on the first page of the search results by including keywords on your headline. The headline is the first thing your readers notice and serves as a sneak peek of your content. If you can stay on top of your competition and at the same time attract your target market, then you can expect a boost in your marketing pay off.

Tip # 2: Optimize your main body with the right amount of keywords

Apply enough keywords for Google to notice your page, but remember to be mindful of keyword stuffing (i.e., stuffing too many keywords that Google starts to see your page as spam). The ideal keyword density is two percent of your article, or at least twice every 100 words.

Tip # 3: Talk to your readers

There’s a risk of being carried away with the SEO copywriting technicalities that writers sometimes compromise readability. Before anything else, you are writing for your human audience, and your content should translate to relatable, appealing pieces. SEO is the only tool to help you reach more people. After that, it will be up to your content to keep them engaged and convert them to customers.

Tip # 4: Look at other ways of publishing for Google

Aside from keywords, there are other things you should be looking at if you want to optimize your SEO copywriting content. First, create a meta description relevant to your audience and the Google search term you're aiming to rank. A well-written meta description should include a call-to-action and keywords. Next, clean your blog URL by adding keywords so that Google can easily recognize your content. Remember: Nothing looks less appealing than a URL that's filled with random strings of letters and numbers!
